A simple floor plan was a good start

After surfing owner builder sites and reading about all of the 2 year-3 year projects that 'blew out' or came to a stand still because of some complex building problem, I realised my best bet to start with for a kit was a simple floor plan. I knew my limitations, one of them being time, the other- the absolute requirement to finish. Most of those guys and their grand projects lost years, wives, jobs, and money. My kit was up in a month and we moved into it in three.

It's ok to build from a simple house plan but I have kids and parents who visit constantly, so I needed a 4 bedroom kit plan. I made sure I could do it myself with all the inclusions and specs and kept it one storey, and it took me 8 months. I had help with the slab and the plastering but the kit provider was always available to me for my endless questions. I just think you have to know your limitations.
